The Effect of the Evoque on the Range Rover Name

January 26th 2012 -

Range Rover has long been seen as one of the default luxury car brands. The first Range Rover went on sale over 40 years ago and was an instant hit by then. Since then the boxy design has evolved but the shape it still an icon even today.

Land Rover was always very careful of the Range Rover brand name, it conveyed luxury, capability and comfort and they were protective. When Land Rover announced they would be making a sportier version called the Range Rover Sport then fans were wary. The final result had few critics but a few thought the brand dilution went too far.

In 2011 they announced a new ‘Baby Range Rover’, called the Evoque. The concept was a knock-out and many voted it one of the best looking concepts ever. The reviews of the Evoque, best demonstrated by carbuzz, are exceptional. No one has complained this time about brand dilution, proof that the Range Rover name is still strong.
